The School's Namesake:

Patricia Blattman retired at the end of the 2002 school year after a distinguished career of 28 years at Northside ISD, 35 total years in education. When she retired, she was serving as the Deputy Superintendent for Instruction. Mrs. Blattman is a former teacher at Oaks Hills Terrace Elementary School and a former principal of Glass and Colonies North Elementary Schools.

During her tenure as Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Northside, NISD became the largest Texas Education Agency “Recognized District” in Texas, a major feat among large urban/suburban school districts, had major increases in the number of Recognized and Exemplary Schools, and had seven National Blue Ribbon Schools, two of which became candidates for recognition at the National level.

Mrs. Blattman has been a life-long advocate for excellence in education and for creating school environments that are educationally stimulating as well as caring and nurturing. She strongly believes in strong partnerships between home, school, and the community in order to best serve our children.

Mrs. Blattman recently retired from her position as a part-time clinical professor in the School Administration Graduate Program at Trinity University. She continues to serve as a founding member of both the Northside Museum Association Board and the Northside Friends of the Library Board, as a member of the Northside Citizens Bond Advisory Committee and the San Antonio OASIS Board of Directors, and as an active docent at the McNay Museum of Art. She is an avid traveler, having recently visited Russia, China, Germany/Austria, France and several areas of the United States. She has nearly completed her goal of visiting each of the fifty states. She also loves spending as much time as possible with her eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Blattman’s three children credit their mother for inspiring them to achieve and to give back to the community. Her two sons, Scott and Todd, are family practice physicians in Waco and her daughter Marcy is following in her mother’s footsteps as an educator in Northside. 

It is our hope that our school’s namesake, Mrs. Blattman, will also inspire the thousands of Blattman Black Bears that will go through our school to also achieve and become contributing members of society.
